Beta-launched three weeks ago, Joppy is the Tinder for tech, looking to improve the hiring process in Spain through its app that helps developers find work in Barcelona’s tech sector.
Built by developers Felipe Saal, Antonio Santiago, and Product/UX/UI guru David Mundo, Joppy is a hiring app made by developers, for developers.
“We’ve been online only three weeks, but we already have more than 500 developers subscribed and jobs offers from more than 30 companies,” Saal tells Novobrief.
Among the 30 companies offering jobs on the app are letgo, Wallapop, TravelPerk, and mytaxi, according to Saal.
Joppy is recruitment app focused on the needs of tech professionals, so they are accessible to companies. It is an app where job seekers will only see offers that match their expectations and where only companies whose offers they have accepted can contact them.
For now, it is only available for work in Barcelona, but the team has plans of expansion throughout Spain in the near future.
The search feature for job seekers is pretty straight forward that starts with three questions with an option to “exclude consulting firms”:
- What are your minimum salary expectations?
- What roles fit you?
- Full Stack
- Machine Learning
- What’s your email address?
For the second question about what roles fit you, it goes on to ask how many years of experience you have with at least two “Suggested Skills,” such as C++, J2EE, Distributed Systems, Databases, Docker, etc.
“We’ve been working in startups for a long time and this year we decided it was time to build our own project,” adds Saal.
“With more than 10 years working in the world of internet startups, we have lived and suffered the exponential growth of the demand for technological profiles,” the founders say, adding, “a growth that, little by little, has turned the recruitment of talent into one of the Achilles’ heels of technological startups.”
The initial process for candidates seeking work is anonymous until users decide otherwise. By hiding gender, age or race, anonymous profiles allow for fair and equal negotiation.
“The goal of the app is not replace the recruitment process, but to provide a better way in how companies approach potential candidates,” says Saal.
“If, after chatting, candidates are still interested in an offer, they can give the company access to their real profiles and follow the usual recruitment steps,” he adds.
For companies looking to hire, Joppy provides access to previously inaccessible candidates.
In a context in which tech professionals do not need to actively seek work, Joppy focuses on those professionals who, even if they have a job they like, do not want to stop paying attention to new and better opportunities.
To insure only productive conversations, if a company talks to a candidate, it is because it has shown interest. There are no cold-door contacts, which reduces the amount of unproductive conversations, and thus increases the quality of the results.
The founders have more than 10 years of experience in the tech world and have worked for startups such as letgo, CartoDB, Trovit, Softonic, and Incubio, among others.
They have been working together as a team for three years.
“Our experience allows us to understand the needs of professionals in the sector and to understand the current status of recruitment in tech. Joppy is our proposal to improve it,” the founders said in a statement.
