During the first semester of the year, the Cámara de España helped 856 entrepreneurs to start their own business, through the España Emprende program. These newly created companies generated 911 new jobs.
Developed through the network of territorial chambers of commerce, España Emprende is co-financed by the European Social Fund and its objective is to contribute to the startup of new business activities, focusing especially on its sustainability and competitiveness over time.
Murcia led the way with the creation of 168 new startups. In second place, Valencia created 147, followed by Castilla-La Mancha (116), Andalusia (97) and Galicia ( 84).
Most of the businesses that were created through this program belong to the service sector (86%). In second place and a long distance away from the first one is construction (9.2%). Within the services sector, “other services” stand out, especially personal services (50.7%), followed by retail stores (27.2%) and hotels with 12.2%.
In legal terms, 57.7% of the open businesses were individual companies, followed by Limited Liability Companies, with 38.2%.
During the first half of the year, the chambers of commerce attended through the program España Emprende saw a total of 4,243 users, of which 83.4% were entrepreneurs with a business idea and 5.6% had already created a company.
Profile of the Spanish entrepreneur
The entrepreneur in Spain is typically between 25 and 55 years of age, has been unemployed for less than a year and has studied at university, according to the Cámara de España.
According to the data handled by the program, those under 25 are more enterprising than those over 54. Of the entrepreneurs participating in the program, 19.07% are younger than 25 and 7.7% are older than 54.
España Emprende offers support to the entrepreneur in all the phases that make up the life of the company:
- Gestation of the business idea
- Creation and processing of the company
- Transfer or cessation
Throughout these stages, the España Emprende program has developed a set of activities both face-to-face and online, which carry out support services for entrepreneurship of the cameral network and the Cámara de España itself and cover the following areas:
- Awareness activities including dissemination and information about the process of entrepreneurship in any of its development phases.
- Training for entrepreneurs during any of the stages of the business cycle.
- Personalized guidance adapted to the needs of the specific entrepreneurial initiative.
- Help with processing to legally formalize the transit for each one of the phases of the life cycle of the company.
- Monitoring, which includes support activities and accompaniment in the evolution of business initiatives with the aim of contributing to increase their chances of survival and competitiveness over time.
