Connect: Barcelona, the event that connects startups with media professionals, comes to Europe

Barcelona becomes the first city in Europe to host Publicize’s Connect event, a space that brings together local startups with renowned journalists from Spain and Europe. The event is open to all members of the startup community and attendance is free with prior registration

According to a recent report, Barcelona has become one of the main innovation hubs in Southern Europe. In the last five years, Catalan startups attracted €5.3 billion in investment, 231% more than in the previous five-year period, proof of the remarkable growth of the Catalan ecosystem.

In addition, Catalonia currently has more than 2,100 startups with a collective turnover of 2.1 billion euros and employing more than 20,600 people.

Connect: Barcelona will take place on Wednesday, May 15 from 18:30 to 20:30 at Barcelona Activa’s Sala Empren (Carrer de Llacuna 162, Barcelona). The event brings to the city a pitch competition that aims to connect startups innovating in the city’s tech space with prominent members of the industry’s most important media.

Media Judges include journalists and editors from international publications such as Sifted (from the Financial Times), EU Startups, and Entrepreneur Magazine, as well as Spanish media such as La Vanguardia, El Economista and El Español.

After each pitch, entrepreneurs will receive questions from journalists and get valuable comments and feedback on their ventures. At the end of the event there will be a live Q&A session where founders and audience members will be able to ask questions to obtain information of great relevance to the growth of their ideas.

Confirmed startups that will pitch at the event include:

Some slots are still available to pitch as well. If any Barcelona-area tech startups are interested in presenting, they’re encouraged to register on the Eventbrite link and contact events@publicize.co.

The initiative is promoted by Publicize, an international public relations agency specializing in startups and companies in growth stages, and is supported by local change agents. Connect: Barcelona is hosted in collaboration with Barcelona Activa, the local economic development agency of the Barcelona City Council that promotes quality employment, entrepreneurship and support for a plural, diverse and sustainable business network, from an economic, social and environmental perspective.

Connect events have been successfully hosted in-person in cities such as Miami, Mexico City, Santiago de Chile, Bogotá, among others, as well as dozens of virtual events, serving as a bridge for entrepreneurs around the world to connect with the specialized press and publicize their projects.
